Work Stuff
In the past 10+ years, I’ve had a fairly broad and unconventional experience with software and business development. I’ve worked for a small software company since 2013, for which I do everything from sales and marketing to product development and customer onboarding.
I’m usually spread too thin over too many projects (whether it’s building something, improving something, or learning something) and that’s mostly my own fault and I’m mostly OK with it.
I should be more focused on finishing the things I start. And now that I think about it, I should be less OK with jumping into too many projects.
I’ve created lots of websites and several apps, for personal and professional purposes. I write a lot of code and I wish I could call myself a developer, but I can’t. At least not yet.
Out of personal interest and sometimes necessity, I use a “hack and stack” approach to many projects. This revolutionary, somewhat haphazard, method involves leveraging various existing software tools, hacking in some custom code, and taking shortcuts that a software engineer might understandably frown at, but ultimately results in something that customers and colleagues might smile at. Sometimes it’s fast and I’m happy with the outcome. Sometimes it’s slow. Sometimes I’m not happy with the outcome. Piecing solutions together for business and software is a fascinating challenge.

Even though you don’t know what you don’t know, I do know there’s a shitload of stuff I don’t know.

Working to change that a little bit each day. Emphasis on little, but not because of a lack of effort.
